MY STORY

The current design behind WCClub’s teachings and values has its own traceable roots which originate from the intersection of particular teachers, mentors, and various schools of thought in the health, sports and fitness industry. MY STORY takes a peek at those intersections that had the greatest influence on Wagner, giving you the opportunity for a general feel and visualization of the brand of training that makes WCClub what it is today.

WHEN IT COMES TO INNOVATION...

There was a time when Plyometrics training and the Pilates method hadn’t yet made it to the forefront of Western style training. As a young athlete in the early 80′s, Wagner Rulli put his trust in the hands of his Eastern European coach and followed his instructions of Plyometric drills and Pilates- type moves. It was something of a tough decision to make considering, as a youth, all you want to do is just play your sport! But, in retrospect, Wagner is thankful to have stuck to it–gaining the skills for these styles of physical training which have become some of the crucial pieces of training and exercise for most coaches and fitness instructors in recent years.

CROSSING PATHS...

Enter the mid 1980′s and Mr. Ralph Harris–a man whom Wagner owes much of his inspiration. Mr. Harris’ history of relentless positive outlook and conviction has carried him through some tough times growing up as a young man in Barbados. Outside of his outstanding physical feats–winner of the Barbados Junior Olympic Lifting Championship in 1954, as well as Senior Champion years later; winning performances in Power Lifting events; and top three standing in Mr. Montreal Bodybuilding in the early 70′s –Harris has always demonstrated that true strength comes from within and that training is about more than just the individual–it’s also about community.

Crossing paths with Mr. Harris at the N.D.G. YMCA during the mid 1980′s was a fateful moment for Wagner. There was an instant bond and a trust that carried through the lessons taught by Harris. Learning and training, under the watchful eye of Mr. Harris, for the different regimen that make up Body Building, Olympic Lifting, and Power Lifting has given Wagner tremendous respect for all three disciplines. But it was also Mr. Harris’ effective use of mental strength that led Wagner to further investigate the value of such non-physical aspects of training.

THIS IS ME...

Today, Wagner’s brand of training focuses on the ability to generate effort coming from various sources (deliberately or not) and express it through timely, intentional actions allowing the individual to reap the physical results that come from it. And for every positive physical change, no matter how slight it may be, new thoughts are created and come to life to correspond with these physical changes. That is, you have a new way of looking at your changed body. Hence the motto used at the WCClub: from mind to muscle, and back again.
